Water Damage that’s not handled properly leads to mold growth and compromises the structure. Our client hired another restoration company three years ago to dry out the property. Unfortunately, they did not go underneath the house to remove the wet contents. Thus, mold is everywhere in this house!

What to Do After a Water Leak?

While water leaks might be considered less devastating than fire damage, even
a small water leak on your property can cause significant damages that
will be very costly to mitigate. When a water leak escalates, it can cause
mold, stains and waterlogged drywall. Therefore, if you can’t stop a water
leak immediately, it is important to contact Mold Doctors USA to prevent
further damage. Regardless of whether it is a minor or major water leak,
it is crucial to deal with any water leaks quickly. Here are essential
tips for cleaning your home after water damage to minimize the risk of
personal injury.

1. Leak Detection

It’s important to move wet items to a dry area with enough fresh air to
prevent further damage. It may not be easy to detect the leak without
the professional help of a water, storm and mold damage cleanup company.

Our water damage restoration team at Mold Doctors USA will use
sophisticated disaster restoration machinery to undertake various tests to
locate the leak. A moisture meter will help determine the extent of the
mold damage and pinpoint the source by analyzing the moisture maps.

2. Drying

Drying is a very important part of any water leak situation. For instance,
when a water pipe in an upstairs bathroom bursts, it causes flooding and a
lot of damage to the walls and ceilings. Therefore, before considering any
repairs, it is important to dry out the rooms extensively. If the leak
was minor, a commercial grade dehumidifier can be installed to speed up the
room drying process.

Also, some minor stripping out works can help remove the damaged material
before the repairs. In case of a major water leak, we recommend specialized
drying equipment that is necessary for drying all the affected rooms. Our
professionals use thermal dryers to apply heat and dehumidify the wet
surfaces. We use dehumidifiers and air movers in the drying process to
extract moisture from hidden spaces, walls, and floors.

Who doesn’t love a good shower? We all do, but that shower can wreck havoc on your home if the drain clogs.

Making sure the shower drain doesn’t clog is important to avoid water damage in your home. If you notice clogging, pour baking soda, followed by vinegar, down the drain to see if that will unclog it.

Obviously, this is a quick fix for perhaps a more serious issue. We definitely recommend calling a reputable plumbing company to fix the shower drain in a timely manner. This minor issue could turn into a major problem if it is not fixed. Who would have thought a shower drain could be such a big issue?

Mold Doctors have seen this on water damage jobs all over Knoxville too many times. From small showers that flood an entire floor to a shower that flooded several levels of a hotel!

Suffice it to say, if your shower drain is clogged – don’t ignore it! Otherwise, you may have to give us a call to help you in your time of need!

Why Knoxville TN Homeowners Should Know The Symptoms Of Mold Exposure

Do you think you have been exposed to toxic mold? Millions of people are exposed to toxic mold on a daily basis – without even touching it.

By ingesting and breathing mold particles, they don’t know they have been exposed. Mold can be hidden in your crawlspace, basement, behind walls, and throughout multiple places. Mold is especially common in Knoxville and East Tennessee, where our damp and humid climate traps moisture and encourages mold growth.

Mold can make you very ill and can sometimes be deadly. Our immune systems can be compromised by the damaging effects of mold. Mold toxicity is something that goes unnoticed and misdiagnosed quite often.

When people are around toxic mold, they are usually exposed by breathing in airborne mycotoxins. Like mold spores, mycotoxins are too small for one to see with the naked eye. Mycotoxins are invisible chemicals that can be contaminating to your environment.

From your clothing to your bedding, it can contaminate your belongings or home.

Multiple diseases and symptoms get mistaken for mold exposure, including fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, Lyme disease, hormone issues and much more.

If you have reason to believe that you’re suffering from mold exposure, it may be time to schedule a professional inspection.

Mold remediation and mold removal may be necessary, but getting a professional opinion and a course of action will ensure that future problems don’t arise.
If this touches home with you, give Mold Doctors USA a call at 865-945-3000 to schedule a free, no hassle inspection.

Losing Your Assets to Liabilities

Expert-Mold-Drs-USAWe work in an industry that is unfortunately unpoliced. In our state (Tennessee), the terms professional, qualified, certified, or accredited to perform mold remediation mean nothing to the jugheads who compromise the health of your family, the quality of your life, the condition of your home, or the liability of your business. They claim to have a home inspector, a waterproofer, and a mold removal or pest control “expert”  (in this case one in the same), but they are untrained, uneducated, and lack the knowledge to exchange a Christmas gift let alone the makeup of air in a structure. Surely in most states this would be a conflict of interest. In this industry, I hear the famous words, “[xyz] said I need to evacuate immediately.” These so-called experts claim credentials that don’t exist or certificates that don’t qualify them to perform remediation work. Yes, I said it, would I see a podiatrist for a heart murmur? NO.

Prove the knowledge, prove the credentials!

Listen to an expert:

Research on crawl spaces has proven outside air raises humidity. Encapsulation alone does not solve moisture issues, and installing corrugated pipe is a band aid. HVAC drop downs are thought to solve moisture issues in crawl spaces. HOWEVER, drop downs alone, if not done correctly (i.e., balancing the HVAC system), will create negative pressure inside the home, therefore compromising the air quality in your home. New homes are built to be “green.” More energy efficiency also means less air infiltration. As mentioned above, negative pressure in the living space means your energy efficient home would trap more contaminants within the home. These contaminants (mold/pollens) are pulled in from outside and recirculated, creating more allergic reactions. HVAC drop ins (vents/registers) or poor quality, over-priced encapsulations are not always the solution.

How do you know which company is right for the job?
